Tony and I have been friends with the groom's family "The Dacanay's" for well over 10 years. We have been blessed to be good friends with his brother & sister-in-law and we watched Ken, or as I know him "Kenny", grow up into a man. Ken called me when he became engaged to Jenny; I was ecstatic for them! Ken told Jen that she could have anything she wanted for their wedding, but the one thing he was not willing to compromise on was the photographer. Ken has always been aware of my photography and he knew that when it was his day, I was the photographer he wanted!
As the day came closer and closer, we chose some great locations throughout Philadelphia to take portraits. We planned to have three hours of running around time. The morning of the wedding it was apparent that we were not going to be outside. So, Tony and I headed to the hotel almost two hours early. We needed to find indoor locations and find them fast!! Now, knowing the Dacanay Brothers control the weather with their emotions, it was no surprise to me that there were torrential rains outside. When Ken's brother Ron got married a couple of years ago, there was a hurricane that decided to roll through. Following the ceremony, right about the same time that Ron relaxed, the rains stopped and the clouds parted... Coincidence?
When Tony and I went looking for indoor locations, we came across Terrain, a boutique for your garden. It is stunning and I have been wanting to go there for months. Before the wedding I ran in to see if we could get permission to do portraits there. I was so happy to find the manager was a bridesmaid in a wedding we photographed last year. She was more than happy to allow the bridal party to run throughout the greenhouses for portraits. That saved me! Ken and Jenny are such a unique couple that your average pictures wouldn't do. This would be the perfect location!
At the hotel, while eneryone was getting their hair and makeup done, the power went out. The back-up generators weren't functioning, so we had to use the stairs to move things around for the wedding. (Elevators weren't working). The groom had to shower and shave by the light of "glow sticks". When everyone was ready we headed to Terrain for portraits. The wedding ceremony took place at the groom's family church, St. Augustine's, in Philadelphia. The inside of the church is so exquisite. Between the details, paintings and stained glass windows, you can't help but feel closer to God when you walk through the double doors. Again, keeping with tradition, right after the ceremony, the rains lightened and we were able to get some portraits underneath the Ben Franklin Bridge.
The reception was a PARTY to say the least! Ken and Jenny had an amazing dessert spread with a chocolate fountain to top it off. Once everyone settled into the last part of the evening, they were all surprised when Ken and his band took to the stage for a performance like no other! It was a ton of fun & I am thankful that Tony and I have such wonderful friends!
Congratulations "Kenny" & Jenny,
Tony and I wish you much love and happiness!
