Franklin Institute Wedding

I have known Julie's family for a couple of years. I had photographed Julie's sister Laura's wedding three years ago. After Laura's wedding, Laura had worked with Tony, my husband, as a graphic designer. We became great friends! So when it came time for Julie's wedding, I was so excited when they asked me to photograph the event. Laura even designed the beautiful graphic used throughout Julie and Jason's wedding. [more]

The whole event took place at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. With the ceremony taking place right before the reception, we decided to run around the city for portraits beforehand. Whenever I have a couple see each other before the ceremony, I create a beautiful moment for them. Jason surprised Julie with a set of beautiful pearl and diamond earrings. You can see the surprise on Julie's face when Jason opened the box. I just love it when couples see each other before the ceremony, because they are able to express their emotions without a room full of people looking at them. Julie and her Jason are such a fun laid-back couple, that it was only fitting for us to head to a candy store to start things off. As you can see with Jason's choice of shoes, the day was all about having fun. All of the groomsmen and even the bride wore a pair of Converse sneakers. Julie found a custom pair of "Love" Converse hi tops. Once we met up with the bridal party, I knew the craziness was about to begin! All of the attendees were high-energy, fun-loving people, I can see why Julia and Jason decided to surround themselves with them on their wedding day.

As we made it into the Franklin Institute we headed to the large heart. Something about being inside of a two-story heart just says "love" on your wedding day. We then headed into the aviation room and Julie was up for anything. She did not hesitate for a second when I asked her to jump into the plane hanging from the ceiling. It is such a great location for both ceremony reception and portraits.

The ceremony was held in a planetarium. Having Julie and Jason married underneath a starlit sky, was absolutely breathtaking. As you can see in the photographs, the beautiful room decor and ceremony were pulled together beautifully by fabulous lighting. Lighting can really add dimension and feeling to a room. It also really helps with photography. The more natural and available lighting there is the less flash I use. This allows me to move throughout the room capturing the true intimate moments between the couple and their guests. Julie and Jason had such wonderful flowers and details spread throughout the reception. The guests were even able to jump into a Photo Booth for silly portraits for Jason and Julie to enjoy later. The toasts were wonderful and Laura, Julie's sister and matron of honor, gave a funny toast that had everyone rolling. It was really wonderful to be able to photograph the Rifkin family at another joyous moment and to get to know the Diperstein's even better! The band "Big Rick" kept the dance floor full all evening. They did a fabulous job and ended the night on such a wonderful high note! The evening is always over too fast, but the memories and laughter lasts a lifetime!

St John, Caneel Bay Wedding Getaway, part 3

When Carla called me for her wedding to Damien, we more than just hit it off. After hearing about their gorgeous plans for their destination wedding in St. John, I realized this was not going to be an ordinary wedding. [more]

So, when the wedding plans began, they wanted to keep it simple. However, sometimes simple is hard to pull off. When the plans were underway for their destination wedding in St. John, the guest list started growing and growing. The only solution: a wedding for two! Alana, the planner at Caneel Bay, did a beautiful job of bringing the ideas and dreams Carla was envisioning to life!

Carla and Damien had decided to have their wedding at Caneel Bay in St. John. The wedding was all about luxury and details. Carla wore a fabulous Monique Lhuillier gown with the most amazing pair of Jimmy Choo shoes! Damien looked very handsome in a tailored suit by Dolce and Gabbana and David Yerman cufflinks.

We started the day with makeup by Kristina, she did a fabulous job. Once in their attire, they saw each other for the first time in the " stone ruins " of Caneel Bay. That is always my favorite moment! We then jumped in a cab, and headed for town. We headed to some absolutely beautiful local spots with bright colors and local vendors. We had to make the first stop be at Woody's bar. This was the couple's favorite hangout. We then stopped at a small bar in a parking lot for the local taxi drivers. It is not illegal to drink and drive, just illegal not to wear your seatbelt!

We could not head back to Caneel Bay without first stopping at the local basketball court. Damien played college basketball, it is a big part of his life, so it seemed only fitting that he hit the court in his wedding day attire. Damien gave Carla the basketball to make a shot, and she did just that, surprising everyone.

Once we were back at Caneel Bay, we headed to Turtle Bay for the ceremony. The sound of the steel drum roll over the hill, with the sound of the waves breaking on the rocks was absolutely beautiful. As Carla walked towards her groom, you could see the most beautiful smile on her face and Damien could not take his eyes off of her. After the vows were said and the rings were exchanged, we headed down the hill to start dinner. Carla and Damien stopped to take in the views and the lighting was absolutely glowing. In that moment, it was really beautiful to see Carla and Damien taking in the moment and the scenery around them.

The romantic dinner for two was held in the stone ruins at Caneel bay. What could be better than enjoying filet and lobster tail, surrounded by candlelit stone archways and swaying palm trees, with the love of your life? They enjoyed their first dance to the sounds of the steel drum. Carla and Damien had the most beautiful little cake I have ever seen. The pastry chef of Caneel Bay had created a beautiful white cake covered in tiny white pastry flowers. It was more than Carla could have imagined. After dinner was over, Tony and I took Carla and Damien back to Woody's bar to finish off a perfect evening.

Tony and I were so honored to be the only people allowed at such an intimate wedding. We had such a wonderful time getting to know this beautiful couple and their story. We spent the day after the wedding with Carla and Damien on the beach outside our rooms. While Tony and Damien debated the chances of seeing a shark, I gave Carla a one-on-one photography lesson. When we left the resort, we had a sense of sadness. We are so blessed that our clients always become our friends. This was especially true with Carla and Damien!

Carla and Damien planned a beautiful sunset dinner for two on the beach at Caneel Bay. [more] The light was so beautiful and so was Carla and Damien! As the sun set and Carla & Damien sat for dinner, it was really fun to watch them. With the moments of the wedding day on the horizon, you could tell that they were savoring every moment!

Carla & Damien Part 2 - Super Sexy Photo-Shoot Caneel Bay St. John

Carla and Damien were a little shy about being in their swimsuits, but to be photographed in your swimsuit is an entirely different story, they were terrified. [more]As you can see, they have nothing to be worried about! We had a blast running around on the white beaches of Caneel Bay, St. John for an hour before breakfast. These two love birds took direction very well. At one point, while Carla was sitting in the sand, Damien stated " I can't work like this, bring in the next model." It did not take long before we had the attention of fellow beach bums and they were positive this was a hired pair of models! Not a bad assumption!

I am blessed to be able to do what I love for people who are in love. Life is such a gift and we never really know how long we are here with the people we adore. We knew Sarah was going to be an amazing photographer from the moment we met her � her personality, enthusiasm, and desire to know the type of couple my (then) fiance and I were was so inspiring in this world where weddings can sometime become BIGGER than the couple.

Our engagement picture shoot further instilled that belief in our mind, as she worked with us to find a location that fit our personality (Historic Waynesborough) and captured our playful attitude and love for each other (some of our favorite Engagement Pictures are of us having a snowball fight).

I knew that Sarah was creative, inspiring, professional, and resourceful � but I never could have foreseen how important a role she would have played in our wedding day. When the hair salon / spa sent my veil home with another girl, Sarah was more than reassuring and comforting. She and her team quickly called a wedding contact in Philadelphia and through her connections (and as a favor to Sarah), a sophisticated bridal boutique (Bridals by Danielle) lent me two veils so that I could still have my dream ceremony. She literally "saved the day".

Sarah worked efficiently with my husband and I after the ceremony to get through our "Check list" of family and bridal party pictures. During earlier meetings we had brainstormed backdrops that spoke to my husband and my personalities � these included classic Philadelphia brick staircases in Rittenhouse, more modern and colorful shots in Anthropology, and (my favorite) a captured moment when my husband and I bought a hot dog from a vendor on the street in full wedding dress. Sarah strove hard before and during the wedding day to make sure these pictures were about AARON AND LARA, not generic Bride 1 and Groom 2. Her love of natural lighting and her creativity was inspiring to both of us � and even my (at first) camera shy husband was a ham by the end of the day!

Sarah and her team were everywhere during the ceremony � and touched base with my parents, the groom's parents, and other important members of the wedding party to make doubly sure that there were no important group shots we had not taken yet (my parents and in laws appreciated this so much!). I have 25 cousins on my father's side � and with Sarah's help we rounded them up for the first "cousin" picture in over a decade. (This is just an example� there are too many others to name�)

To wrap up � I cannot say enough about Sarah DiCicco (and her team) as our wedding photographer�.. but in the end she was more than that, she became my fashion coordinator (I even started to run by hair and jewelry selections by her prior to the wedding!), fairy godmother, and the 6th Bridesmaid in my wedding.

If you're smart, you'll try to snag her the day after you get engaged. I promise � she is completely worth it.

Sarah and Tony,

I wanted to thank you and send a huge hug and kiss to you both. When we first met in your studio I said I hate to have my picture taken and to look at myself in photos. Sarah you response was "no problem." That is when I knew you would be our wedding photographer and I would trust you

implicitly with that day.

Well- I want you to know that for someone who hates to have her picture taken and runs from the camera at every friend's party or event... I cannot stop looking at our photos. The moments you both captured are perfect and exactly what I wanted. I knew it was a great day but looking back through the photos had no idea just how much I smiled that day rain or not! The picture of our rings on the Steiff rabbit is so sentimental. I am sure you are not aware but those small animals were my childhood collection and that little rabbit is over 30 yrs old.

I learned the most important thing while planning that wedding that I tell everyone who is getting married. "It is all about whom you surround yourself with on that day." It was wonderful to see your faces when you walked in the house with huge smiles. It was as if more of my friends showed up!

Weddings with The St Regis & Town and Country

We were so fortunate to have been invited by Town and Country to join in one of their exclusive events with the fabulous St Regis Hotel. We shared a room with Town & Country, Sylvia Weinstock (famous cake baker), The St. Regis and Renny & Reed, not to bad of a lineup to be standing with! [more]

I had a couple of new products that I was showing. I am working with a new album company out of Canada, Called Iris Books. Check out the images. I was also showing off my new Wax Works piece! It is a 3-4x6 set hinged together. I LOVE IT! I needed some flowers to accent my table, so I called the wonderfully creative Nancy Saam. She came to the studio and picked an old Ink well to use as a vase. I just love pulling antiques into designs! I just love what Nancy did for me! You will notice me with a dear friend Sylvia, in one of the images. Sylvia and I met when I started my relationship with Town & Country, and a wonderful friendship has grown. Sylvia and her fiance Christophe are planning a wedding in France this upcoming summer!
