More than a wedding!

Last week I had the extreme pleasure of meeting Louise and George. Sadly Louise has battled illness all of her life and has developed incurable lung disease! I have been moved to tears many times behind my lens, but this time is different. I am honestly blessed to be able to photograph a bride and groom on the start of a life together, but with Louise and George, it is a slightly different story.

I am in awe of their love for each other and humbled by their experiences in life. I cannot begin to go into details about all of the heart ache and loss they have both lived through & to still hear Louise say that this is the happiest time in her life... Really, enough said! This level of love is around us at all times, but it is sad to think that we do not let it overwhelm us until we actually have the sweetness of life in our hands for just that moment!!!

I am photographing George & Louise's Wedding Tomorrow evening as a gift! I am so excited to witness these two lovebirds finally get married!

On August 12th Tony and I photographed the stunning Laurie and Derik for their wedding at the Atrium in the Curtis Building. There is so much I love about this couple! Mostly their combined love for sports (yes that is Trent Cole), love for champagne and love of photographs! I could not have had more fun at their wedding and I have to say that was the sexiest guest list I have ever seen! [more]

Sunny & Chris had a beautiful wedding! Sunny wanted to create a very stylized look with her wedding photographs. Searching for the perfect location at which to take portraits, Sunny & Chris followed the route that would take them from the church to the reception. In doing so, they saw an old, amazing barn located on private property. Sunny and Chris approached the house there and knocked on the door and asked "Would you mind if we stopped here for our wedding photographs"? The homeowner was flattered and said "YES". Coincidentally, Sunny & Chris's wedding date was also the homeowner's wedding anniversary day! [more]

After the wedding ceremony, on our way to the reception at the Franklin Institute, we stopped at the estate with the amazing barn. The family was there waiting for us and not only did they open up their property for portraits, but they opened their doors to the entire bridal party & offered drinks. This gave me even more time to photograph the bride and groom. We had a blast & I love it when a couple allow me free range to play, create and stylize a portrait session on their wedding day.

Only 4 weeks after having my baby, Luca, Tony and I were right back into the swing of things photographing weddings! To top it off, it was on New Years Eve!

Missy and FJ's wedding was held at the Bellevue Hotel in Philadelphia. This is the first New Years wedding I have ever photographed. Typically I take the night off to enjoy with my family and friends, but Missy and I hit it off so much that I could not say no! [more]

Franklin Institute Wedding

I have known Julie's family for a couple of years. I had photographed Julie's sister Laura's wedding three years ago. After Laura's wedding, Laura had worked with Tony, my husband, as a graphic designer. We became great friends! So when it came time for Julie's wedding, I was so excited when they asked me to photograph the event. Laura even designed the beautiful graphic used throughout Julie and Jason's wedding. [more]

The whole event took place at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. With the ceremony taking place right before the reception, we decided to run around the city for portraits beforehand. Whenever I have a couple see each other before the ceremony, I create a beautiful moment for them. Jason surprised Julie with a set of beautiful pearl and diamond earrings. You can see the surprise on Julie's face when Jason opened the box. I just love it when couples see each other before the ceremony, because they are able to express their emotions without a room full of people looking at them. Julie and her Jason are such a fun laid-back couple, that it was only fitting for us to head to a candy store to start things off. As you can see with Jason's choice of shoes, the day was all about having fun. All of the groomsmen and even the bride wore a pair of Converse sneakers. Julie found a custom pair of "Love" Converse hi tops. Once we met up with the bridal party, I knew the craziness was about to begin! All of the attendees were high-energy, fun-loving people, I can see why Julia and Jason decided to surround themselves with them on their wedding day.

As we made it into the Franklin Institute we headed to the large heart. Something about being inside of a two-story heart just says "love" on your wedding day. We then headed into the aviation room and Julie was up for anything. She did not hesitate for a second when I asked her to jump into the plane hanging from the ceiling. It is such a great location for both ceremony reception and portraits.

The ceremony was held in a planetarium. Having Julie and Jason married underneath a starlit sky, was absolutely breathtaking. As you can see in the photographs, the beautiful room decor and ceremony were pulled together beautifully by fabulous lighting. Lighting can really add dimension and feeling to a room. It also really helps with photography. The more natural and available lighting there is the less flash I use. This allows me to move throughout the room capturing the true intimate moments between the couple and their guests. Julie and Jason had such wonderful flowers and details spread throughout the reception. The guests were even able to jump into a Photo Booth for silly portraits for Jason and Julie to enjoy later. The toasts were wonderful and Laura, Julie's sister and matron of honor, gave a funny toast that had everyone rolling. It was really wonderful to be able to photograph the Rifkin family at another joyous moment and to get to know the Diperstein's even better! The band "Big Rick" kept the dance floor full all evening. They did a fabulous job and ended the night on such a wonderful high note! The evening is always over too fast, but the memories and laughter lasts a lifetime!

St John, Caneel Bay Wedding Getaway, part 3

When Carla called me for her wedding to Damien, we more than just hit it off. After hearing about their gorgeous plans for their destination wedding in St. John, I realized this was not going to be an ordinary wedding. [more]

So, when the wedding plans began, they wanted to keep it simple. However, sometimes simple is hard to pull off. When the plans were underway for their destination wedding in St. John, the guest list started growing and growing. The only solution: a wedding for two! Alana, the planner at Caneel Bay, did a beautiful job of bringing the ideas and dreams Carla was envisioning to life!

Carla and Damien had decided to have their wedding at Caneel Bay in St. John. The wedding was all about luxury and details. Carla wore a fabulous Monique Lhuillier gown with the most amazing pair of Jimmy Choo shoes! Damien looked very handsome in a tailored suit by Dolce and Gabbana and David Yerman cufflinks.

We started the day with makeup by Kristina, she did a fabulous job. Once in their attire, they saw each other for the first time in the " stone ruins " of Caneel Bay. That is always my favorite moment! We then jumped in a cab, and headed for town. We headed to some absolutely beautiful local spots with bright colors and local vendors. We had to make the first stop be at Woody's bar. This was the couple's favorite hangout. We then stopped at a small bar in a parking lot for the local taxi drivers. It is not illegal to drink and drive, just illegal not to wear your seatbelt!

We could not head back to Caneel Bay without first stopping at the local basketball court. Damien played college basketball, it is a big part of his life, so it seemed only fitting that he hit the court in his wedding day attire. Damien gave Carla the basketball to make a shot, and she did just that, surprising everyone.

Once we were back at Caneel Bay, we headed to Turtle Bay for the ceremony. The sound of the steel drum roll over the hill, with the sound of the waves breaking on the rocks was absolutely beautiful. As Carla walked towards her groom, you could see the most beautiful smile on her face and Damien could not take his eyes off of her. After the vows were said and the rings were exchanged, we headed down the hill to start dinner. Carla and Damien stopped to take in the views and the lighting was absolutely glowing. In that moment, it was really beautiful to see Carla and Damien taking in the moment and the scenery around them.

The romantic dinner for two was held in the stone ruins at Caneel bay. What could be better than enjoying filet and lobster tail, surrounded by candlelit stone archways and swaying palm trees, with the love of your life? They enjoyed their first dance to the sounds of the steel drum. Carla and Damien had the most beautiful little cake I have ever seen. The pastry chef of Caneel Bay had created a beautiful white cake covered in tiny white pastry flowers. It was more than Carla could have imagined. After dinner was over, Tony and I took Carla and Damien back to Woody's bar to finish off a perfect evening.

Tony and I were so honored to be the only people allowed at such an intimate wedding. We had such a wonderful time getting to know this beautiful couple and their story. We spent the day after the wedding with Carla and Damien on the beach outside our rooms. While Tony and Damien debated the chances of seeing a shark, I gave Carla a one-on-one photography lesson. When we left the resort, we had a sense of sadness. We are so blessed that our clients always become our friends. This was especially true with Carla and Damien!

Setting Sail

Brierley Wright and Andy Horton's wedding was beyond elegant. Brierley and Andy live in Vermont close to Andy's hometown and they pulled in many details of the place they live and love for their wedding in Philadelphia. [more]

The Horton family are avid sailors, so much so in fact, that Andy started sailing when he was 6 and is now a professional sailboat racer. Andy even led his team to a gold medal in the Pan American Games. Andy merged his love for Brierley, with his love of sailing, when he asked Brierley to marry him. He proposed on his father's sailboat, "The Thistle". Andy used a beautiful pink ribbon to tie the custom designed engagement ring under a seat on the sailboat. It was very fitting that the couple used beautiful blue thistles in the boutonnieres for the wedding.

The day of the wedding all of the plans had been set and carried out perfectly by the wonderful crew of Eclatante. Tony and I arrived at the Westin Hotel, in Philadelphia, for the getting ready process of the day. I know everyone hears me say this, but it is my favorite part of the day. Emotions are high, butterflies in the stomach...I remember how I felt when it was my wedding day and it is a feeling that you wish you could feel again and again. It is a feeling of Love, thoughts of your future, excitement to see your soon-to-be husband and the happiness of your dreams coming true!

While I stayed with the girls, Tony headed to Lucky Strike with the guys, to photograph Andy and his friends enjoying a little downtime with some bowling. After bowling, Andy gave all of his groomsmen wine in unique gift bags. The bags were made from recycled sails, in the past Andy donated sails from his own ship. Meanwhile, Brierley was getting dressed in her stunning Romona Keveza gown, with a beautiful light blue, crystal encrusted sash around the waist. The shoes, of course, were Monolo Blahnik. Claudia Seyler and her gorgeous ladies did the hair and makeup for the bride and all of her girls.

We created a special moment for Brierley and Andy to see each other for the first time. Brierley waited in the ballroom of the Westin and Andy opened the doors and was speechless when he saw his bride. As tears filled their eyes, Brierley's mother quietly embraced the moment , knowing that her daughter was going to be well cared for by this man. After a few moments and a couple of tissues, we headed to 30th Street Station for pictures. The large pillars outside the building and the hustle and bustle inside makes it a great location. This was my first time shooting at this location. I loved bringing in the traveling aspect of this couple's life with the beautiful, old "Tickets" sign hanging over the two of them!

After a couple more stops, we headed to the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Hamilton Building, for family portraits, the ceremony and reception. The ceremony took place in one of the lower galleries of the building. Following the ceremony, guests selected their name cards from a table decorated with a stunning centerpiece. The name cards were handmade by the bride and groom. They were little sail boats: How Sweet! Guests made their way up a glowing staircase to cocktails. At cocktails, there was a beautiful spread of Vermont Cheeses for the guests to enjoy.

The reception room was absolutely stunning. Donna, from Beautiful Blooms, outdid herself yet again! The centerpieces were made up of tall lanterns and a very organic free-flowing design. I know whenever I work with this team of planners, florists, beauticians and caterers, I am going to have stunning images. There was a touching moment when Brierley removed a ring from her bouquet and placed it on her finger. The ring belonged to her great grandmother and was the "borrowed piece" from her mother to enjoy for the day.

Brierley is an editor at " Eating Well Magazine" and I knew the food was going to be great! It was not a surprise that they hired Jimmy Duffy's to cater the evening. Brierley's parents used the same caterer for their rehearsal dinner in the 80's. Dinner was fabulous, but the dessert was a masterpiece! The pastry chef had created a red sugar apple filled with the most amazing ganache. As pretty as it was to look at, I watched as the guests enjoyed digging into the sides to get to the center. The band was also extraordinary. They had the greatest song list for the evening. The "Sultans of Swing" made there way here, for the wedding, from Martha's Vineyard. The guests were also spoiled with an expresso bar after dinner. The evening was a ton of fun and I had a wonderful time photographing all of the people that Brierley and Andy love!

You might remember this stunning Hollywood couple from the sexy photo-shoot in Malibu I had photographed this past February. The only thing that might look a little different is the color of Alyssa's hair. She is back to her roots in more ways than one! Alyssa just finished shooting a recent movie before the wedding in which she starred as a brunette. Alyssa and Josh are from New York, so they left the West Coast for a Fall Wedding at home and Alyssa returned to her blonde hair color.[more]

Alyssa & Josh's wedding took place in Cooperstown, New York at the Farmers Museum with a beautiful reception to follow at the Otesaga Resort Hotel. As Alyssa filled me in on all of the wedding plans, I became more and more excited waiting for their day to arrive. I truly had the photographer's dream. A movie star couple comfortable in front of the camera and all of the fall colors in upstate New York. I had perfect locations scouted out and then we got the weather forecast... RAIN and Lots of it! My only hope was that the sky would be clear for portraits.

While the girls were getting ready, I could tell Alyssa was so worried about the weather. So I told her not to worry, the rain was going to stop and we WERE going to get the amazing shots she dreamed about! It was actually really sweet; Josh was organizing board games in the lobby for all of the guests so they could have some fun indoors. As the rain came down, the guests boarded the trolleys and made their way to the Farmers Museum, less than a mile away. I began photographing Alyssa using the window light (even though it was very dark outside) and just as I started snapping away I could see a small sparkle in her eyes start ever so softly and then this beautiful ray of light was shining right on her face... Beautiful!

We headed out to the ceremony and the rain was holding off. The Farmers Museum is an outside Museum of historic landmark buildings that have been relocated to create a small town. Set on the edge of rolling hills and a gorgeous lake, it was beautiful! The ceremony was so exquisite that I was moved to tears! During their vows they filled in the end of this sentence twenty different ways: " I love you because... ". Like a good movie, you know it was perfect if it makes you laugh & cry at the same time! Their dog was even the surprise ringbearer! Following the ceremony and the Lavender toss, they made their way onto a carousel for the champagne toast and a ride. The fog rolled in just in time for portraits!

The cocktails were held on the back porch of the Otesaga with heaters roaring and the crisp fall evening setting in, it was going to be a great night. The reception room was glowing with candlelight and I especially loved their favorite movies quietly playing on the back wall. Not only did Alyssa & Josh jam out to the Red Hot Chili Peppers for their first dance, but Josh took to the stage with an amazing performance on the drums. Between the photo-booth and cigars, the guests were well entertained for the entire night.
